Normalizing Secularism in the 21st Century

The term Secularism has been muddied over the last number of decades by both the religious and non-religious alike. Secularism is categorically not saying that the religious may not speak out publicly or have a say in public life. It is about saying that religion alone should not confer a privileged say in public life or greater influence on it. It really is as simple as that.

I am very passionate about humanism and secularism and I think it's absolutely exciting that there are progressive religious and non-religious communities in Alberta and Canada that strongly believe that there should be a clear separation of religion and state. However, we all know we have a long way to go before that is truly experienced in this province and nation as a whole.

The goal of our organization is to organize itself out of existence. We want to normalize secularism to a point where it’s so common that secularists no longer need a group to campaign against religious privilege in the face of religious lawmakers.

But were not there yet.

Our Team of Dedicated Volunteers

Due to the nature of our work - our volunteer team that works diligently behind the scenes must remain anonymous for the time being. Exposing their identity could potentially place them at risk of joblessness, harassment, and or discrimination. In time we hope that all of those who volunteer for this organization will be able to be represented on this page without fear.
